How to save money on your hot water bill & save the planet with our Energy Efficient Water heaters.

With the warming of the world’s climate, water conservation is one of the biggest challenges facing the world today. Saving water at home not only reduces your water bill, but it can also lower your energy bills as you use less hot water.

A typical household uses on average around 345 litres of water each day. About 20 per cent of a typical gas heated household’s heating bill is from heating the water for showers, baths and hot water from the tap.

How much does it cost to fill a hot water tank? According to Ista to calculate how much a tank of hot water costs, you need to know your tank size in litres and the immersion heater power rating. Hot water tanks come in many sizes, from 40 to 400 litres, while the hot water immersion heaters are normally either 3 or 6 Kilowatts (kW). You can then work out your costs using numerous available online calculators. For example, on an average tariff, a 120-litre tank with a 3kW immersion heater will cost £1.02 to heat and take 125 minutes per tank. If your heater is 6kW, it will cost the same but take half the time. That amounts to £746.32 for the year! Hot water on demand systems are typically more efficient as they do not require a storage tank, saving both space and energy.

Does hot water on demand save money? Hot water on demand systems, such as tankless water heaters, can save you money on your energy bills in several ways. These systems only heat water when needed, avoiding the energy loss associated with stored hot water. You could save money on hot water by making a few adjustments to your household’s water usage and heating methods. Most importantly, upgrading to an energy-efficient water heater could save you a significant amount on your energy bills.

There are many factors that can reduce the efficiency of your water heater, causing your energy bills to inflate. These include:

Age

Traditional water heaters typically have a lifespan of between 10-15 years. Once they’ve reached this, you can expect the efficiency to start to drop. The less efficient your water heater is, the more it will cost you to heat water. For more than 60 years, Ferroli Group has developed high performing, energy-efficient heating units. We pay meticulous attention to every stage of the design and manufacture of our heating units – and we apply the same care to our water heaters. Reliable, safe and efficient, they’re available in capacities that range from 5 to 100 litres and are suitable for all kinds of application.

Water quality

If you live in a hard water area, minerals and sediments can build up at the bottom of your water heater and coat the heating element. This can reduce the efficiency of the heater, leading to higher energy bills. Our Cubo & Sev water heaters come with high quality Blue Forever elements that improve performance and reduced limescale build-up which helps keep the element efficient and preserves the life of the element. These water heaters come with an extended warranty too.

Capacity

If your water heater is not big enough for your household’s water needs, it will constantly work to keep up with demand. This continuous operation increases energy consumption and raises your energy bill. Ferroli water heaters are suitable for all kinds of domestic hot water requirements, large or small. Our small capacity heaters can be installed wherever there’s a 220-240V AC and mains water supply to provide instant hot water from your tap – while our larger, mid-capacity water heaters can cope with all the demands of a larger family home.

Choosing the right water heater for your home.

How much water you need is a key factor in helping you choose the right water heater for your home. When and how often hot water is needed, the temperature of the inlet water, the average room temperature and the length and insulation of the circuit. To keep it simple, ask yourself how many times your family will need hot water during the course of a day, either simultaneously or in quick succession and then check the table below to get your litre capacity requirements.

Thermostat

If the thermostat on your water heater is set too high, you’ll be wasting money keeping water at an unnecessarily high temperature. Turning your thermostat down can help save money on your energy bills.

How to save money on your hot water bill & save the planet

It is a fact that reducing your carbon emissions and your hot water bill can be achieved through the use of energy efficient electric boilers and water heaters with efficient technologies. The latest government insights on Domestic hot water (03/2024) identifies “electrification of heat in domestic homes as important in reducing the 16% of carbon emissions directly attributed to homes in the UK, with 18% of heat demand in homes from hot water.

Best way to save money on hot water – install small capacity water heaters for use throughout the day. Mini water heaters can either be a standalone option or installed as part of a full domestic water heating system. We recommend thinking about installing mini heaters where you need hot water throughout the day for smaller tasks like washing up. Our smaller water heaters can be installed wherever there’s access to a water supply and a power source. They can sit above the sink or below.

Upgrading to energy efficient appliances with high quality elements also ensure a longer life of your water heater also good for the environment. We use four different materials when we produce the elements that power our water heaters. Stainless steel and hyper-conductive copper are the most cost-effective and we use them as standard. But we also offer high quality Blue Forever elements – they improve performance and reduce limescale build-up which helps to preserve the life of the element.

Other ways you can reduce your footprint include

Insulation

Insulating your water heater and pipes can reduce heat loss, ensuring your water stays hot for longer and reducing the amount of energy needed to heat it.

Fix leaks

A dripping tap can waste a huge amount of water, increasing your bills.

Low-flow fixtures

Installing low-flow showerheads and taps can reduce your water usage without compromising on performance.

Go renewable

Heating your water using electricity generated from renewable sources, such as solar PV, can save you a considerable amount on your energy bills. Our new Egea Tech Lit Air Heat Pump is a brand-new range of storage heat pump water heaters for the production of domestic hot water, suitable for small residential applications. It is a smart solution for heating domestic water, which uses electricity, air and possibly solar thermal and photovoltaic energy, without any use of traditional fuels.
